Hi, I'm Champ - Pat me!

My name is Champ and I am a Great Pyrenees dog. Great Pyrenees dogs are an ancient breed that originated in the Pyrenees Mountains between France and Spain, and are still used today as livestock guardians everywhere.
Mississippi Great Pyrenees Rescue saved my life when I was found roaming the streets there (and in pretty bad shape, too) but now I have it made in the shade. At one time in my life, I had six families feeding me and a "home" that didn't care enough to feed me regularly, which basically left me on my own. When I was rescued, I had heart worms, not a lot of hair, and several broken teeth (I also wasn't eating too well at the time. I make up for that now.) There are a lot of animals like me, who just need a little care and a lot of love (And food, plenty of food!) My owner was kind enough to realize he was not taking good care of me and so he relinquished me to the rescue.
I now live and work in the Tryon, NC area, which is in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and I love it here, even though it gets a little warm for my taste!
I am a certified Therapy Dog, a job which I love, and I have also earned my Canine Good Citizen Certificate (which I could care less about). I am a member of the Polk County Pet Pals, a group that visits a variety of assisted living facilities and special care units in and around Polk County. I also go to the Polk County schools on a regular basis and help to educate the children about being responsible pet owners for the Foothills Humane Society.
One of my favorite places to go is to the Special Olympics, where the children really seem to enjoy seeing me. In my spare time, I enjoy warning off any vultures or airplanes that dare to fly over my territory, and barking at the moon or any coyotes that pass in the night. I also counter-surf at every opportunity and enjoy eating paper towels and toilet paper when I can't find anything better.
My blog will be about my adventures as a Therapy Dog, mainly herer in Polk County, and will also include facts and ideas to help folks be more responsible pet owners.
I need another job to keep me busy (besides my Therapy Dog career and my guard-the-house-gig.) I am a livestock guarding dog (LGD) with no livestock to guard! I guess having a blog is the next step. And true to my breeding, I am a very independent dog!
So sit back, relax, and enjoy me.
